|How it works. |
I choose to do my Webquest project on water conservation. My invention, "Simply Rain Water" consists of five simple machines, including the pulley, screws, a lever, a wedge, and a wheel and axle. The main component is a system of barrels, and PVC piping. The main barrel will sit on the roof of a house, or business, and collect rain water. (The barrel is relatively small in comparison to the roof, and will be discretely placed.) Then the water will drain through a series of filters into PVC which can carry the water to different water tanks for household usage. To prevent anything other than water from entering into the system, there is a large screen, which can be dumped with a pulley. The tanks will be placed in the attic, so they do not create an eyes-sore, and will be used just like a regular water tank. You can hook up any of your homes' water pipes, to the contraption, but I recommend, the washing machine, toilet, and watering hose
| How it helps. |
My invention will help to conserve on water, therefore preserving this vital natural resource. Half of the average households water consumption per day, is used in the toilet, washing machine, and watering hose. So in using this product, you would save about half of your monthly water bill. In a year that, is about three-hundred dollars!!! But the benefit to the environment, is much more than that. By using rain water for things, such as the toilet, you are saving the pure water for drinking, which in turn, will allow this pure water to last longer. The importance of preserving our water supply is more important than ever, now that the population is growing so quickly, and some, of our water is being contaminated, by us humans. Factories, contaminate the water around them, boats contaminate water, cars, planes, the list is endless. All of these causes, reduce the amount of water suitable for drinking. Did you know that only 2% of the water on this planet, is drinkable? So why use clean water for things that don't need pristine water?
